COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES
Museum Quilt Guilds maintains an active Community Service Outreach program. We hold work days twice a year and members also donate quilts and items they have made themselves. Currently we supply quilts and donations to the VA Medical Center, NYS Veterans Home, WNY Foster Closet, Lipson Cancer Institute, Wilmot Cancer Institute, Buffalo Chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace, and All Babies Cherished.
At Holiday time we make and fill gift bags for children in our community through the local Salvation Army..
We will also supply quilts as needed to local families suffering personal tragedy as well as quilts on a national level to those in catastrophic situations.
Brickhouse Corners Fair
Each year the Museum Quilt Guild sponsors a booth of show and tell quilts and boutique items for sale at the Brickhouse Corners Fair, the first Saturday in September. It is a large crafting/vendor event and is always a good spot to promote our guild and sell raffle tickets during the year of our quilt show.
Holland Land Office Museum Wonderland of Trees
Each year the Museum Quilt Guild, along with many other local organizations decorates a Christmas tree according to the theme set by the Holland Land Office Museum. There is a large Gala and the event is open to the public for about a month. It is a fundraising opportunity for the Museum.
July 4th Picnic in the Park
Each year the local Arts Council, GoArt, sponsors a large picnic in the park at Centennial Park on Richmond Avenue, across from the NYS School for the Blind. The event attracts hundreds of people each July 4th, and there are many vendors, local musicians, crafters etc.
